Editorial team on the road – A visit to Tristan Glanz

I have mentioned a few times that I think it’s wonderful that there are so many lovely people among us EGSA members. And sometimes you don’t have to wait until the next trade fair in Hamm or the EGSA annual meeting to see these people. I really enjoyed visiting Helmut Kreyerhoff, whom I have mentioned before, and his outdoor facilities. I also always enjoy visiting Anke Dreier for coffee and a chat, even though we don’t do it nearly often enough since I can determine the sex of the babies myself. And dear Tristan Glanz doesn’t live too far away from me either. We visited him again recently because he needed another Thamnophis sirtalis similis female for his group. Free delivery , in exchange for an item from his enclosure.
So my mother and I bravely got into the car and drove to Tristan’s place, only to be greeted by barking dogs, because we are at a dog training school run by the Glanz family. This is also the heart of Tristan’s facility. It is still a small room where we can admire not only Tristan’s Thamnophis, but also his frogs and toads, which he introduces to us. He tells us about the expansion plans that are in the pipeline and shows us that someone has been bitten by the Thamnophis bug. A condition that some of us are probably familiar with. The plans envisage separating the Thamnophis from the frogs, because even though the frogs don’t seem to be bothered by the presence of the snakes, it smells quite tasty for our darlings here. The different temperature requirements are also easier to meet if they are separated, because at the moment it is a little too warm for the snakes in the room.
So while Tristan can choose a nice T. s. similis female from Mum, we chat animatedly about this and that new development on the scene, we share plans for next year and Tristan also introduces us to his frogs, I busily take photos, even though I have just learned that the facility as it stands now will soon cease to exist. This makes it difficult to write a detailed report. After all, a lot will change here very soon. But since we had already announced this report, I didn’t want to write nothing. Unfortunately, when I got home, I realised that my mobile phone camera wasn’t very forgiving and the pictures really didn’t turn out well… Perhaps I’m just a terrible photographer. So this time, there are only a few pictures of the facility that Tristan sent me. The same goes for his frogs and toads.
However, we will certainly visit Tristan again soon, as it’s really only a stone’s throw away, and then we’ll admire the new facility again, and I’ll report back 🙂
